Global harmonisation on hydrogen
How to manage the tsunami of activities around hydrogen safety and standardisation ?
Surely you have seen the hydrogen key topic on our website. But what’s happening in the other global regions and is this all coordinated and aligned within our industry.
To cater for these genuine concerns, EIGA staff have initiated a new initiate within the International Harmonisation Council (IHC) to create a IHC H2 Strategy Taskforce (TF).
The IHC is a council gathering the 4 regional associations EIGA, AIGA (Asia), CGA (America & Canada) and JIMGA (Japan) with Observers from company members.
The common objectives of this new TF is to align our hydrogen approaches across continents, avoid duplication and waste of members’ resources, and define those areas and gaps where our industry should be most active in…with the focus on hydrogen safety.
The agreed way forward and priorities were also presented to, and supported by the IOMA Global Committee. These priorities revolve around :
- developing training materials for operators, drivers and emergency responders
- developing 3 industry standards;
- on separation distance,
- interface connections and
- hydrogen fuelling stations.
- reach out to external stakeholders to raise awareness on safety
In addition, EIGA is elaborating a matrix of EIGA member experts participating in ISO and CEN Hydrogen Committees. This will allow us to identify where there is little or no industry representation and therefore assigning in an optimal manner members’ resources.
